Currently, the top 14/U tennis players across many countries over the world are very busy preparing for the annual ITF World Junior Tennis Competition. The Finals are to take place from 5th August to 10th August 2019 at Prostějov, Czech Republic.

This competition was started by the ITF in 1991, then the format changed in 1992 when regional qualifying events were introduced.

A number of the past participants have gone on to become household names on the ATP and WTA tours. Former winners in the boys’ event include Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, David Nalbandian and Richard Gasquet, while Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters, Amelie Mauresmo, Daniela Hantuchova and Vera Zvonareva have all appeared in the girls’ event.

In order to reach the Finals, every nation, with the exception of the host nation, must win through regional qualifying. There are five qualification zones: Africa, North/Central America, South America, Europe and Asia/Oceania. The participating teams in the Asia/Oceania region include Australia, China, Japan, Korea, and 12 others.

The Asia/Oceania qualifying event is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The boys event is to take place from 1st April to 6th April, and the girls event is to take place from 8th April to 13th April. There will be 4 groups in each event and the top 4 teams in the end will progress to the Finals.

Last year the Australian boys team progressed through to the Final event. In the Final event, the Australian boys team reached the quarterfinals and came 8th. The American boys team and the Russian girls team claimed 2019 World Junior Tennis titles.
