Many people nowadays are questioning whether Gatorade or any sports drink actually works during physical activity or if it is just a scam. Lets have a deeper look.

When you play sports or participate in any kind of physical activity you lose a lot of electrolytes and fluids through perspiration. If the fluids and electrolytes are not replenished then you may suffer from dehydration, which will not only affect your game but also your physical condition.

Drinking water helps rehydrate the amount of water you have lost through sweat. Drinking water helps keeps you balanced and regulates your body temperature while you are exercising. If you don’t drink enough water during exercise it may lead to headaches, poor concentration and lack of energy.

Gatorade and any sports drink contain electrolytes such as potassium and sodium. The sodium helps keep the fluids that you lose through exercise. These drinks also contain a lot of carbohydrates, which give you more energy during exercise.

If you are participating in a light exercise then water should be sufficient to keep you hydrated. However if you are playing a high-intensity sport for a long time than you may need to consume a sports drink to help replace the vital fluids and electrolytes that you have lost.

There are many cautions, which you need to be aware of when drinking Gatorade or any sports drink. Gatorade contains a high amount of carbohydrates and calories so it should not be consumed on a regular basis. It is best not to use Gatorade as the only source of fluid replacement, so it is recommended that you have water with Gatorade. Gatorade also contains a high amount of sugars so it is not recommended for children.
